Tesla settles with Black worker who won two trials over racist discrimination

Tesla has reached a settlement in a racial discrimination lawsuit filed by Owen Diaz, a former employee. Diaz, who is Black, had previously been awarded $3.2 million in damages by a federal jury. The terms of the settlement are confidential. Diaz’s attorneys stated that the resolution was amicable. The same law firm is representing other current and former Tesla employees in a separate class-action lawsuit alleging ongoing racist discrimination and harassment. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has also sued Tesla, accusing the automaker of tolerating racial harassment and retaliation against Black workers.
